WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRYOUTS

The purpose of tryouts is to place players on the appropriate playing level for each specific team. We would love to include everyone, but due to the number of coaches available and the availability of gym space this is not always possible. Our purpose is to place players of equal ability together as a team. Players have the option of playing up in an age bracket, but they are unable to play below their age bracket. Coaches will have the final say if they feel a player has the ability to play up.

During tryouts, players will be asked to perform specific volleyball skills to demonstrate their ability of that skill. Coaches will be asking players to demonstrate skills in serving, passing, setting, and overall team play. While demonstrating these skills, coaches will be rating players on a high to low rating. Coaches will contact all players within 24 hours to let them know if they made a team and what team they will be placed on. If your daughter does not make a team, the $85 uniform deposit will be returned to you (see below).

Tryouts will be held at Cambridge Middle School. Doors will open for check-in at 6:15 PM. Every player needs to check-in and will be given a tryout number that will be placed on their t-shirt. All necessary paperwork and payments need to be made before a player will be allowed to enter the gym. Tryouts will begin at 6:45 PM and will be completed by 8:00 PM. Only players and coaches will be allowed in the gym during tryouts. Parents are welcome to sit out in the hallway during tryouts, or leave their child and return at 8:30 PM.

What players should bring to tryouts:

  • Practice clothes - t-shirt with shoulders and bellies covered; shorts or leggings; clean tennis shoes; & kneepads

    • Tryout shirt color:​

      • 15s - orange or similar ​

      • 16s - black or similar

      • 17s - blue or similar

  • $85 uniform deposit check. If your child does not make a team, this will be returned to you.

    • Uniforms need to be ordered after your daughter has been placed on a team in order for them to be delivered prior to our first tournament.

    • Checks can be written out to: CI Spikers JO Volleyball

 

What to do prior to tryouts:

  • Pay the $25 non-refundable tryout fee

    • Payable by check (written out to: CI Spikers JO Volleyball) at tryouts or pay online

  • Complete the required forms
     

Following tryouts:​

  • All players will be notified within 24 hours following tryouts.

  • Players making a team and their parents are required to attend the Mandatory Parent/Player Meeting which will be held on Monday, November 27 beginning at 6:00 PM at the Cambridge Public Library.

  • Pay the remaining Spikers fees at the Mandatory Parent/Player Meeting.

  • Complete the JVA Medical and Liability form.

  • Practices will begin the first week of December.
